What is your business about?

I offer 1:1 coaching for female entrepreneurs who are new to navigating life working for themselves. My coaching services specialize in helping entrepreneurs learn important skills involved in self-management, build confidence, and get clearer on who they are and who they want to help so they can show up confidently in their business.

Please describe your life before starting

I was working a 9-5 with families who had children with special needs. I found that work to be incredibly rewarding, but also really exhausting for a lot of reasons. I felt like I had kind of "maxed out" my opportunities for growth there and was craving something new I could do to challenge myself and grow. I also knew that I could be making so much more of an impact on a larger scale, but wasn't exactly sure what that was going to look like yet.

What made you decide to take the leap and start your own business?

I knew myself to be a pretty impulsive person at this time, so I actually gave myself a whole YEAR to think about whether I wanted to pull the trigger and launch my own business. I had been listening to a podcast hosted by a life coach and was super intrigued by that work and how she approached life. It was because of that podcast that the seed was planted in terms of "Maybe I could be a life coach, too and make a living out of it..." I gave myself a year to think on it, and then decided to pursue a life coaching certification and open my business to start taking clients. The fact that I stayed so passionate about the idea for a full year told me everything I needed to know. I was made for this!

How would you describe your life now, as a solopreneur?

Freeing, relaxing, it just feels so much more like me and there is so much less resistance in my life. Because I'm able to create my own schedule, I get to prioritize what's most important to me which means I am running my business while my personal "cup" is filled. ALWAYS. That is one thing I will never compromise on is filling my cup first. I like to joke that I live a selfish life because I prioritize myself above everything else. But in reality, doing so allows me to be more compassionate and empathetic in my personal life and my business.

How has your ADHD played a positive role in your business life?

Oh man, I never have a shortage of new ideas I'll tell you that! I am ALWAYS generating ideas and solutions and it is so exciting knowing that I'm the one that gets to decide whether or not I get to execute on them. I also know that my ADHD gives me a lot of energy and excitement for what I do, which allows me to lead with integrity and really show up in a way that gets my clients excited, too.

What's your top tip for other ADHD women aspiring to be solopreneurs?

Don't try to "wing it." Yes, messy action is inevitable, but don't try to skate by doing the bare minimum and try to do it all alone. Invest in the support you need and you'll see success SO much faster.
