What is your business about?

Healthcare sales and business development services

Please describe your life before starting

I was stuck in a closed loop of male driven corporations offering no growth opportunities and saying “we all know she’s “ambitious”,” without ever getting promoted. I have 2 masters degrees in business! No matter the company, I excelled in sales, like award winning and record breaking, but I was always the one to be let go. The only solution was to finally gamble on myself and take the leap of faith.

What made you decide to take the leap and start your own business?

I was laid off after asking the company president” do I have to have drinks on your deck to get a promotion?” after he bragged about hiring the last 3 consultants this way. I realized a man is never going to promote me. If I want to do what I do best, I’d have to go on my own.

How would you describe your life now, as a solopreneur?

Happy! Wonderful! Free to be me!! In reality, I have less stress about deadlines and meetings and I can do the things that are meaningful to my family like volunteer at my kids’ school, go hiking on a Wednesday, and workout as many times as I want, or don’t, during the week. It’s stressful knowing a job could end, but I built in a 30-day termination clause into my contract to protect me.

How has your ADHD played a positive role in your business life?

I get hyped up to do new marketing campaigns and finish my deliverables when I want to, not in a 9-5 window.

What's your top tip for other ADHD women aspiring to be solopreneurs?

I know it’s hard, but gamble on yourself. Insurance is covered by the marketplace, and your drive will take care of the earning. You got this!!
