Please describe your life before starting

Before E.H. PHOTO, my life resembled a constant search for fulfillment and personal preferences. Pursuing a professional path wasn't always my primary aspiration. Recovering from burnout, a result of pushing beyond my limits without realization, was challenging and remains a daily struggle. However, focusing on my business brought a sense of purpose and improvement to my endeavors. Managing time, compounded by concentration issues, adds to the complexity of my situation. The societal expectation of adhering to a traditional 9-5 work schedule and the stigma of being perceived as lazy weigh heavily on me. Relocating from Belgium to Vancouver offers hope of escaping these judgments, both external and self-imposed.,

What made you decide to take the leap and start your own business?

The decision to embark on the entrepreneurial journey and start my own business was deeply influenced by my family background. With a lineage entrenched in self-employment across generations, the spirit of independence and self-motivation was ingrained in me from an early age. However, witnessing the challenges my family members faced, particularly with accounting issues and symptoms of ADHD prevalent in my father's business, instilled a sense of apprehension within me. These experiences served as cautionary tales, making me acutely aware of the potential pitfalls and hurdles associated with entrepreneurship. Despite the fear and disconnection, I felt towards certain aspects of running a business, the desire for autonomy and the determination to carve my path ultimately propelled me to take the leap and pursue my entrepreneurial aspirations.,

How would you describe your life now, as a solopreneur?

As a solopreneur, my life is characterized by a unique blend of freedom and constraint. On one hand, I revel in the independence of steering my own ship and making decisions solely for myself. There's a liberating sense of autonomy that empowers me to pursue my vision and goals with unwavering dedication. During these moments, I enter a state of hyperfocus, where days and nights seamlessly blend as I immerse myself in my work, driven by passion and purpose. Yet, on the flip side, there are instances where I feel ensnared by the solitary nature of entrepreneurship. The weight of sole responsibility can be overwhelming, leaving me feeling stuck and unsure at times. It's during these periods that I find myself zoning out, struggling to discern priorities amidst a sea of tasks and distractions. Moments slip away as I aimlessly stare into the void, grappling with the challenge of maintaining focus and direction. Despite these oscillations between freedom and feeling trapped, being a solopreneur is ultimately a journey of self-discovery and growth. It's a dynamic balancing act where I learn to harness my strengths, navigate my weaknesses, and chart a course towards success on my own terms.,

How has your ADHD played a positive role in your business life?

As an entrepreneur living with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), my journey is marked by a unique blend of obstacles and triumphs. Despite the challenges posed by ADHD, I've discovered hidden strengths that propel me forward in the dynamic world of business. Navigating distractions while maintaining focus has been a continuous struggle, leading to missed deadlines and inefficiencies. However, my ability to hyperfocus emerges as a defining strength, allowing me to immerse myself completely in tasks that captivate my interest, fueling productivity and creativity. Acknowledging both the challenges and strengths of ADHD has been pivotal in my journey. By leveraging my strengths and implementing effective strategies, such as establishing a structured environment and cultivating a supportive network, I've overcome obstacles and thrived in the competitive landscape of entrepreneurship. My story serves as a testament to the power of resilience and adaptation in pursuing success, even in the face of adversity.,

What's your top tip for other ADHD women aspiring to be solopreneurs

Seeking the right companionship is key to feeling grounded and productive in your environment. For me, it involves searching for an online co-working space and connecting with fellow creatives in the city. Surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals helps to create a sense of normalcy and fosters a productive atmosphere. It's about finding a community where you feel understood and supported, amidst a world that may sometimes feel disordered.
