What is your business about?

I am a photographer who helps small businesses bring their brand to life through brand imagery. I also work with actors and creatives for headshots and editorial photography for press kits.

Please describe your life before starting

I struggled in every job I was employed in, and eventually let go. Whether it be interpersonal issues or the fact I only seemed to actually be doing work some of the time (even though I would often outperform colleagues) was something employers couldn’t seem to understand and reconcile. To be honest, I was only recently diagnosed so at the time I didn’t understand myself. I feel like I had no choice but to make my own business work.

What made you decide to take the leap and start your own business?

How would you describe your life now, as a solopreneur?

Still challenging. I’m only very newly diagnosed and about to start medication, so the mundane tasks like emails and invoicing are incredibly difficult to actually get done. Hoping medication can help me!

How has your ADHD played a positive role in your business life?

I think outside the box and can intuitively connect with people and have often been told they’ve had the best experience with me out of any photographer they’ve worked with. I am able to set my own schedule (which is good and bad haha) and can do things the way they make sense to me instead of “how they’ve always been done”.

What's your top tip for other ADHD women aspiring to be solopreneurs?

Know your strengths and weaknesses and ask for help! Find a community of people (or even one person!) who you can be honest with about your weaknesses.
